Competition is a Driver for Sustainability Efforts

Ain’t competition grand! My compliments to Chiplote who showed us through their Grammy Award AD that the way we farm and raise our animals for food sources can be done in a way that is better for the animals and for the consumer. Their requirements for their farmers put the pressure on other fast food companies to look at their meat supply chain to make sure their supplier are farming in a sustainable way. Recently, McDonalds said it will stop purchasing pork from farmers that use the sow crates by 2014. As consumers we need to continue to use our purchasing power to influence change. That is how it works in a capitalist society. The market drives the change; it is up to us to push for this type of change.
